Catching up with Myke Edwards

January 1, 2015

Just to remember what I promised myself at the beginning of this year:

GOALS FOR 2014:

• Edit “In the Pale Moonlight”
• Journal “The Third Tower”
• Write “The Third Tower”
• Manage to afford professional editing for “In the Pale Moonlight”
• Get agented
• Journal for another novel
• Sell at least one short story per month
• Fully develop Clay and Styg’s world
• Lose this gut!
• Have a perfect wedding and honeymoon

2014 was indeed a hell of a year for many people, myself included. I can’t admit to accomplishing all of my goals I had set, but several of them came true. Some didn’t, and I had no say in them unfortunately. Still, I feel fantastic about many of these, and as I write this on New Year’s Eve at 11:45 PM, I feel happier, healthier, and more positive than I ever have. Not only in regards to my writing, but to my life as well.

1. Well, there went my summer vacation! Ha, seriously, it took me a while, but this novel is edited and ready to go! Ready to go to another editor, that is, and hopefully one who will make it perfect.

2. This wasn’t too difficult, really. Most of this was done at work, so I had plenty of free time to do it. I started writing it before I meant to, but it felt like the right time.

3. I didn’t finish writing the book, but I’m a third of the way through it. Life, work, and lots of other writing came before it, though. I wrote and edited a lot of stories, mostly for contests, and things that couldn’t wait.

4. I have the money, but just haven’t had a chance to find the perfect editor yet. Don’t worry, it’ll happen.

5. Once the book is edited professionally, then I’ll do this.

6. I didn’t have the time or a chance to do this, but definitely, next year!

7. I had no say in this unfortunately. Still, the last few weeks have been good—two stories, were accepted, and paid for! And of course, I have plenty more to come.

8. I don’t want to say I gave up on Clay & Styg, but I’m taking a much needed break from them. Last autumn/winter and some of this spring were spent working on A LOT of stories for these guys. I’ll revisit soon, and it’ll be awesome!

9. Gut isn’t gone, but a lot smaller. Unfortunately, I don’t follow the best diets (meaning the boring, flavorless ones) and I haven’t really been sure of what the best cardio exercises are. Luckily, I’ve been studying up, and found a few that really kick my ass. Seriously, 20 minutes of high intensity and I’m drenched in sweat? I’d say that’s a good start.

10. Yep, it happened. ‘Nuff said!

Now, onto 2015! I’ll have a list of goals coming soon, but for now, I’m more focused on getting everything set that needs to be set for the time being—working on existing projects, editing, submitting, and bringing the best quality writing to you that I can.
